As a Realtor, I show lots of houses and frankly, some of them stink! Some homes have offensive odors and homeowners are often not even aware of it, as they have become desensitized to the smells in their own home. Let's face it, litter boxes, dogs, cooking and day to day life don't always smell great.
In addition to cleaning your home and shampooing carpets, the best way to make it smell better is fresh air. Air it out!
To accomplish this, simply open doors and windows and let fresh air inside your home. Airing a home out is easy. Turn the heating/cooling system off, but leave the fan on, which will help move the air into the home while the windows and doors are open. It's also a good idea to change the furnace filter before doing this, which will help reduce odor. I try to do this at least once a month for a minimum of an hour.
Want another great idea for making your home smell better? Clip auto air fresheners to air conditioner vents. This is a wonderful idea for closets, laundry rooms kitchens and baths. These tiny air fresheners come in a variety of scents and are an economical way to make your home smell better. Vanilla is one of my favorites.
